Southwark Urban Logistics achieves practical completion

Southwark Urban Logistics, British Land’s first multi-level central London logistics and industrial development, has achieved practical completion.

The innovative 167,600 sq ft multi-level facility sets new standards in the market for quality, flexibility, and sustainability. Located in a prime, highly accessible location, the facility offers four floors of space, ranging from 33,288 sq ft to 49,274 sq ft, with the upper floors capable of further subdivision to create units upwards from 1,486 sq ft. This ensures Southwark Urban Logistics is suitable for the widest range of sectors, businesses and configurations, from 3PL companies to supply chains and light industrial.

The floors are served by 14 lifts, five of which have a 5.4 tonne capacity, with a further three rated at 3.5 tonne all capable of carrying EV cargo bikes.

Consistent with British Land’s approach across its assets, Southwark Urban Logistics is highly sustainable, with the building EPC A+ rated and targeting BREEAM Outstanding. In addition, various features ensure the building plays an active role in meeting occupiers’ sustainability targets, including an extensive PV array and multiple EV charging points for vehicles.

The focus on sustainability also delivers operational benefits, maximising occupier productivity while minimising environmental impact.  More than 800,000 people live within a 15-minute drive of Southwark Urban Logistics, rising to over 20% of the capital’s population in a five-mile radius. The building has also achieved WiredScore Platinum Certification for digital connectivity.

Paul Case, Head of Logistics Development at British Land, added: “We are pleased to reach this milestone for our Southwark Urban Logistics development, delivering a high-quality, sustainable logistics building, which is unique for this part of central London.”

The development is the first asset in British Land’s London Urban Logistics portfolio, which also includes proposed locations in Paddington and Bermondsey.  British Land’s leasing agents are DTRE and JLL, with McLaren the construction partner for Southwark Urban Logistics.
