Grosvenor Europe has announced leading global athletic footwear and apparel retailer, Footlocker, is to open a 21,000 sq ft store on Liverpool ONE’s South John Street. To accommodate, HMV has relocated to a new 13,000 sq ft store on South John Street.
The new Footlocker will be one of the brand’s largest in a global portfolio of 2,500 stores.
Alison Clegg, Director, Asset Management at Grosvenor Europe, said: “Securing Footlocker is a reflection of our strategy of providing visitors with a highly compelling and relevant offer that is unavailable elsewhere. Along with the new HMV, the new stores will provide on-trend, exciting offers that further strengthen Liverpool ONE’s great mix of brands.”
“An increasing number of retailers including Footlocker, JD Sports, and Nespresso have launched new stores concepts in Liverpool ONE, an endorsement of their performance and confidence.”
According to Globaldata, the athleisure sector was valued at approximately £2.5billion globally in 2017. Footlocker is the latest in a series of sportswear and footwear brands to select Liverpool ONE for significant stores, with JD and Superdry both opening in Q4 of 2017 and popular concept brand, Seven Liverpool, owned by Footasylum, recently celebrating its first birthday on Liverpool ONE’s Paradise Street.
HMV’s new store also responds to growing consumer trends. It will feature an extensive area dedicated to vinyl, following the brand’s announcement at the end of last year that vinyl sales had hit their highest level since the 1980’s.
The two new brands are the first to be announced in 2018, following the recent launch of JD’s 40,000 sq ft store on Paradise Street in December. Their signing also follows a record year for Liverpool ONE, with sales up 3% in 2017 compared to 2016 and footfall exceeding 29 million for the first time.
Cushman & Wakefield and Metis Real Estate Advisors acted for Liverpool ONE. Footlocker were represented by Brasier Freeth. HMV dealt direct via their in-house team.
