The launch of LEFTIES

LEFTIES has opened its first UK store at Landsec’s Liverpool ONE, a 27,000 sq ft space spread across two levels.

In terms of offer and environment, LEFTIES is very similar to its Inditex family – trend-led with a neutral colour palette and impressive fit-out, but still with a mass-market appeal.

Its multi-category offer already gives it a major step up from other retailers in the UK – it’s not just about fashion. It ensures repeat visits across different spending purposes – men and women, teen, kids, home, and baby.

Key standouts were the technology used within the store, and the homeware section. The homeware felt very upmarket and luxurious for a value-led retail store, and the tech didn’t feel like an unnecessary add-on – you could genuinely see how it enhances the store experience and customer journey, making it better for both staff and consumers.

LEFTIES is signalling a shift in what value means. Consumers still want lower prices, but increasingly expect them to come with fashion relevance, a better experience, and a sense of aspiration and desirability that other value-led retailers are unable to deliver.

Value is no longer enough.

Brands that can make low prices feel desirable through the perception of a more premium experience will win out. The LEFTIES store’s lighting, neutral tones and tech were a far cry from competing value brands.

Our key takeaway?

LEFTIES’ fashion offer feels slightly younger than we initially thought it would, based off of its ads and marketing. While it has the breadth to appeal across different generations, it feels more naturally aligned to Gen Z. This is perhaps a cultural difference, as Spain is much more fluid in its fashion across demographics.

The challenge in the UK will be whether it can make value and trends feel relevant to the 25+ consumer, without feeling too young or compromising on quality.

With such a broad proposition spanning different wants, needs, styles and price points, it will be interesting to see who ultimately gravitates towards the brand and how it establishes its place in the market.
