Soul Mama swings into Angel Central

Angel Central, Islington’s prime retail and leisure destination, has announced the signing of Soul Mama, London’s newest innovative Music Venue & Restaurant concept. The Angel Central location will be Soul Mama’s second London venue, reinforcing the centre as a key destination for emerging operators and a space for unique F&B offerings.

Soul Mama, an immersive dining and music experience, launched by acclaimed musician and broadcaster YolanDa Brown OBE DL and music manager and creative entrepreneur Adetokunbo “T” Oyelola, has signed for the 3,926 sq ft unit on the first floor with a c.1,500 sq ft south-facing terrace. The concept will be adjacent to the newly-opened Søstrene Grene. Soul Mama blends the rich culinary traditions of Africa, the Caribbean and South America in a vibrant celebration of food, music and culture and will further enliven Angel Central’s first floor which continues to attract key brand interest.

Simon Prince, Asset Manager at CBRE Investment Management, commented: “Soul Mama will be a key addition to Angel Central, diversifying an already vibrant line-up of retail and F&B brands. This unique concept provides an amazing audience experience, reflected by its popularity and expansion. It will be a musical hub on the first floor, driving footfall, encouraging all-day visitation and bringing new visitors to the centre.”

YolanDa Brown OBE DL, Co-Founder of Soul Mama, added: “With Soul Mama, we are on a mission to spread love one venue at a time and we see Angel Central as the perfect home for our next chapter. Our very first Soul Mama location was originally meant to be in Islington, so in many ways this feels like a homecoming. Having received so much love for Soul Mama in Stratford, we cannot wait to bring that same energy to the heart of north London and continue growing our community. It will be a real joy to bring more music, culture and connection to such a vibrant and spirited destination. Islington is about to get even more soul”

The signing of Soul Mama follows the recent opening of the new Søstrene Grene and marks the success of Angel Central as a prime crossover destination. Angel Central boasts key brands in retail, such as Uniqlo, Mango and H&M, beauty, with KIKO and L’Occitane, F&B, such as Wagamama and Itsu, as well as experience-led offerings with the Vue cinema and O2 Academy Islington. Soul Mama elevates this line-up, cementing the centre as a key destination for unique, family-friendly, all-day experiences.
