Red Construction Group makes duo of strategic senior hires to faciliate long-term growth plans and hospitality sector development

RED Construction Group, the specialist main contractor, has announced a duo of strategic senior appointments to support the business through its next stage of growth. Recently celebrating its 10-year anniversary, RED Construction Group has in that time become a partner of choice for some of the UK’s most reputable developers and investors, and is set to build on that success with considered regional and sector expansion.

Joining RED Construction Group as the company’s first full-time Group Finance Director, Alastair Gordon-Stewart will lead financial reporting, drive cash flow, and support the Group’s growing portfolio as an established business targeting over £200m in revenue. Alastair joins RED Construction Group with over 30 years of experience in the construction and property development sectors, most notably 12 years in senior finance leadership roles at Kier Group.

Michael Walsh has joined RED Construction Group as a Strategic Director, focused on strengthening RED’s market presence and strategic positioning in the hospitality industry. Michael will bolster the company’s existing experience in the sector, including the delivery of the UK’s first branded net zero voco Zeal Hotel and refurbishment works to London’s iconic St Pancras Renaissance Hotel.

The duo of appointments follows the news that RED Construction Group’s revenue is planned to stabilise at c. £200m over the current financial year. Last year, the group restructured its senior leadership team to focus on strategic, operational growth, and income stability, in the coming years. Continuing to lead the strategy is CEO and Founder Graham Sturge, whilst Derek Quinn has recently become COO of the Group. Sam Hewitt has also moved to Group Commercial Director for the construction business allowing Jon Hayes to assume the wider Group’s CCO role covering all subsidiaries.

Graham Sturge, CEO, RED Construction Group, commented: “These appointments are an important milestone in the evolution of RED Construction Group. As we enter our second decade, our focus is firmly on sustainable growth as a settled and mature business. Welcoming Alastair as our first full-time Group Finance Director strengthens our financial governance and provides the robust platform required to support long-term stability. At the same time, Michael’s appointment enhances our ability to deepen relationships and create new opportunities in hospitality, an area where we have already demonstrated our ability to deliver quality projects. These strategic hires ensure we are well-positioned for the next stage of growth while remaining true to the values that have underpinned our success to date.”

Alastair Gordon-Stewart, Group Finance Director, RED Construction Group, added: “The RED brand has grown into a well-recognised and respected name across its chosen markets, built on strong relationships, consistent delivery, and a clear strategic vision. Having over three decades of financial experience in the construction industry, I am looking forward to further enhancing the company’s financial management to support RED’s continued growth, ultimately contributing to what is already a compelling success story.”

Michael Walsh, Strategic Director, RED Construction Group, added: “In construction, particularly within the luxury hospitality and hotel sector, reputation is everything. RED has built its name on relationships, integrity, and trust, consistently delivering. The opportunity to help further develop RED’s presence in this sector, by strengthening its reputation, and creating new successes across the luxury hospitality landscape, is one I am eager to pursue.”

Delivering works spanning the hospitality, commercial, office, and student accommodation sectors, RED Construction Group has recently completed Tellon Capital’s landmark office redevelopment, 40 Broadway, delivering 130,000 sq ft GIA of wellbeing-led Grade A office space in the heart of Westminster, of which has been let in its entirety to Formula 1.
