Shelley Sandzer holds kee to Singaporean brand's London expansion

Leading specialist UK leisure property agency, Shelley Sandzer, has secured the second UK site for established Singaporean snack and street food and beverage chain, Old Chang Kee. The 1,200 sq ft outlet at 56 Goodge Street in Fitzrovia is set to open this December.

The brand – famed for their curry puffs, voted 13th in Time Out’s ‘Top 100 dishes in London 2019’ – will offer fast casual dining from the new eatery, which is larger than the existing Covent Garden site and can cater to up to 30 customers. Designed by Habi Creative, the interior will be inspired by a typical Singaporean kopitiam – an old-style Asian coffee shop – and feature displays of old Singaporean paraphernalia, storytelling the heritage of the brand’s food.

Established in 1956, Old Chang Kee now sell more than a staggering 1.5 million curry puffs per month across the world, with more than 100 outlets across the Group in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia.

Sandra Leong, Director of Old Chang Kee UK, commented: “We are thrilled to bring another slice of Singapore to London, with our second opening in Goodge Street, Fitzrovia.  Our famous curry puffs have been well received since we opened last year in Covent Garden, even dubbed the ‘best pastry in London’ by Giles Coren of The Times.  Our grab-and-go Singapore hawker meals such as curry chicken and laksa have also proven to be very popular with working and student crowds, so this new location will allow us to introduce our food to more London foodies. Shelley Sandzer have delivered on our site vision, allowing us to use this exciting new space to offer even more to Londoners.”

Tony Levine, Leasing Agent at Shelley Sandzer, added: “We understand Old Chang Kee’s requirements – having helped them find the initial Covent Garden site – and are certain this vibrant central London location will fulfil them. Their offer is incredibly popular with a diverse audience, from tourists, to students, to office workers, and Goodge Street is the ideal spot for their expansion.”
